This interdisciplinary department in the School of Medicine provides
non-biomedical social science and humanities perspectives on health, illness,
and disease. The Department runs three teaching and research programs, two in coordination
with the University of California, Berkeley:
Medical Anthropology
(PhD program with the Department of Anthropology's Program in Critical Studies in
Medicine, Science, and the Body)
History of Health Sciences
(PhD program with the Doctoral Program at the Office for the History of Science)
Social Medicine
(Developing an area of instruction in Medical Humanities through a multi-campus UC Medical Humanities Consortium. More information coming soon!)

Health Sciences designed to foster intellectual interaction between students
